Construction Comes To Green River

In December 2009, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) will begin constructing the next phase of flood protection improvements along the Santa Ana River as part of the Santa Ana River Mainstem Project (SAR Project). This construction, referred to as 'Reach 9' of the SAR Project, is to provide protection to housing and State Route 91 from future floodwater releases from the newly raised Prado Dam - located upstream of the Green River Golf Club property.

Some of the planned construction for Reach 9 will take place directly on, adjacent to, and near Green River Golf Club property. Because the construction directly impacts portions of the golf course property, the Green River Golf Club was purchased in September 2006 for the SAR Project by the Project Local Sponsors – the Flood Control Districts of Orange, San Bernardino and Riverside Counties.

The Reach 9 construction affecting the Green River Golf Club was initiated in 2008 and will continue in Phases over the next several years (subject to funding). During the upcoming construction Phase, referred to as Reach 9 Phase-2B, the golf course will be re-configured from 36 holes to an 18-hole course. While the course configuration may change during construction, it is anticipated that the Green River Golf Club will continue to remain operational throughout the entire construction period and thereafter, once all SAR Project construction is complete.

This next phase of construction is estimated to take about 1 ½ years and, among other improvements, will include building a new entrance driveway and access bridge to the Green River Golf Club Clubhouse. The new entrance driveway – which will begin in the area that is currently #15 tee on the Riverside Course - will run parallel to the river and join the current entrance driveway near the current Orange Course Starter Shack.

We are very excited about all the changes we will soon be experiencing. We apologize if you are inconvenienced in any way and ask for your cooperation and participation in helping us to create a positive, fun environment during the construction. We will be issuing updates as construction progresses. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me.
